Lab Work & Diagnostics at The Piedmont Clinic
You can’t treat what you don’t see — that’s why we use precise lab testing and diagnostics to uncover what your body’s trying to tell you.
The Power of Knowing What’s Going On Inside
Symptoms tell one side of the story. Your body’s data tells the rest.
Lab work and diagnostic testing aren’t just about confirming what’s wrong — they help us predict, prevent, and personalize care before problems ever show up.
Whether it’s catching early signs of diabetes, tracking your thyroid levels, checking your cholesterol, or uncovering hidden deficiencies — the truth is in the numbers.
When your provider can see the whole picture, you get better answers, faster treatment, and smarter long-term care.
What Tests Are Typically Ordered?
What we test depends on what we’re looking for — but most patients will encounter at least a few of these during their visits:
Complete Blood Count (CBC): Screens for anemia, infection, immune disorders
Lipid Panel: Measures cholesterol and triglycerides — key for heart health
Comprehensive Metabolic Panel (CMP): Liver and kidney function, blood sugar, electrolytes
A1C and Glucose Testing: For diagnosing or monitoring diabetes
Thyroid Panel (TSH, T3, T4): Uncovers thyroid dysfunction, which affects mood, weight, and energy
Hormone Panels: Checks testosterone, estrogen, progesterone, cortisol, etc.
Vitamin & Nutrient Levels: Especially vitamin D, iron, B12
Urinalysis: Screens for kidney function, UTIs, dehydration, or other systemic issues
Rapid Tests (in-office): Strep, flu, COVID-19, pregnancy, mono
These tests are tailored to your symptoms, age, and risk factors — so you’re never over-tested, and never under-informed.
When Should You Get Lab Work Done?
If you’re coming in for a yearly physical, lab work is often standard — especially if you’re over 40, have a family history of chronic illness, or you’re on medications.
Other times, labs are ordered when you’re:
Experiencing fatigue, weight changes, or irregular cycles
Starting a new medication that affects liver or kidney function
Noticing symptoms that could be related to your hormones, blood sugar, or thyroid
Having unexplained pain, inflammation, swelling, or digestive issues
Managing a chronic condition and need regular tracking
It’s not just about what’s wrong — it’s about staying ahead of the curve.
What to Expect During Testing
Most labs are done right here at the clinic — no running around to third-party labs or waiting weeks for appointments.
Some tests, like a throat swab or urinalysis, take minutes. Blood draws can range from a single vial to a more complete panel — and yes, some tests do require 8–12 hours of fasting, which we’ll tell you about ahead of time.
The whole process usually takes 15 to 30 minutes, and you’re in and out the door.
How Long Do Results Take?
Some tests — like strep or flu — are rapid, and you’ll get results before you leave. Others, like blood panels or hormone levels, typically come back within 1–5 days, depending on what’s ordered.
Your provider will review everything, flag what’s abnormal, and follow up with a treatment plan, referrals, or just a high five if you’re all clear.
You won’t be left wondering what anything means — that’s not how we do things here.
